Acerca de mí
Integrity. Trust. Transparency.
I’m Ty Rupert, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Deschutes County Sheriff, and a 20-year member of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. I’ve worked my way through every rank of the agency and have spent my career focused on responsible leadership grounded in integrity, trust, and transparency.
My family and I have lived in Deschutes County for more than 25 years. This community isn’t just where I work. It’s where I’ve built my life, raised my family, and committed myself to serving the people who call this place home.
Serving as Sheriff is a responsibility I take seriously, and one I approach with humility, accountability, and respect for the people I serve.

Leadership you can always trust
My commitment to service is personal. I lost my father when I was nine years old. He was a Marine Corps veteran who hoped to pursue a career in law enforcement but never had that opportunity. Following in his footsteps shaped my values early in life.
My service in the United States Marine Corps reinforced the principles that continue to guide me today: accountability, discipline, integrity, and service before self.
Those values continue to shape how I lead, how I serve, and how I show up for our community every day.

Experiencia que importa
For more than two decades, I have had the privilege of serving Deschutes County, working my way through every rank and a wide range of assignments within the Sheriff’s Office.
Today, as Sheriff, I am entrusted with:
- The safety of our community
- The leadership of a 240-person agency
- The responsible stewardship of public resources, including a $68.5 million annual budget
- Overseeing public safety and responsible resource management across more than 3,055 square miles of Deschutes County.
I believe effective leadership comes from understanding every role within the organization and making decisions that support the people doing the work.
Fiscal Responsibility & Business Experience
Before joining law enforcement, I spent 15 years in the private sector, including serving as a Vice President of a Bend-based manufacturing company. In that role, I was responsible for operations, budgeting, and long-term planning.
That experience continues to guide how I approach public service. I believe taxpayer dollars should be managed carefully, responsibly, and with a clear focus on long-term stability.
Liderazgo a través de la integridad
My leadership has been shaped by both military service and law enforcement. I believe responsible leadership requires accountability, transparency, and the willingness to do what is right, even when it is difficult.
Protecting our community also means supporting our employees, respecting taxpayer funds, and maintaining transparency with the people we serve. Trust is essential, and it must be earned through consistent action.
Family & Community
I’ve been married to my wife, Jaclyn, for over 30 years. We raised our family in Deschutes County, and today we enjoy time with our sons, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.
Family, community, and service are central to who I am and guide how I lead every day.
