Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you running for Sheriff?
I’m running because I care deeply about our community and the people who serve it. I’ve spent more than 20 years working at every level of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and I believe Deschutes County deserves steady, experienced leadership rooted in integrity, trust, and transparency.
What is your current role?
I am currently serving as the Deschutes County Sheriff. In this role, I’m responsible for leading the agency, supporting deputies and staff, and ensuring public resources are managed responsibly and transparently.
How long have you worked in law enforcement?
I’ve served in law enforcement for over 20 years. I joined the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office in 2005 and worked my way through every rank, gaining experience across a wide range of assignments.
What makes you qualified to lead the Sheriff’s Office?
I’ve led from the ground up. I understand the day-to-day realities of the job because I’ve done it. In addition to my law enforcement experience, I spent 15 years in the private sector in an executive leadership role, which shaped how I approach budgeting, operations, and long-term planning.
That combination gives me a practical, balanced perspective on leading a modern Sheriff’s Office.
How do you approach leadership?
I believe leadership starts with accountability. That means being honest, doing what’s right, supporting the people who do the work, and being transparent with the community we serve. Trust is essential in public service, and it must be earned through consistent action.
What are your top priorities as Sheriff?
My priorities are straightforward:
Keeping our community safe
Supporting deputies and staff
Managing taxpayer dollars responsibly
Maintaining transparency and accountability
Ensuring long-term stability for the Sheriff’s Office
