Ty Rupert Announces Candidacy for Deschutes County Sheriff
On December 15, Ty Rupert officially filed to run for Deschutes County Sheriff. According to the Bend Bulletin, he was the first candidate to submit paperwork for the May 2026 election.
Rupert has served with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office for more than two decades and was appointed interim sheriff in July 2025 after the former sheriff resigned.
Why He’s Running
Ty’s decision to run is based on his commitment to public safety, rebuilding trust in the Sheriff’s Office, and responsible leadership.
He has experience at many levels within the agency and wants to continue strengthening relationships within the community and among the men and women who serve every day. His focus is on transparency, accountability, and ensuring taxpayer resources are managed responsibly.
